Is the Ticking Sound from Your Kia Engine Really Normal?

It’s a common sound, and there’s no need to worry about it.

Oh okay, good to know

Thank God I know now

But my car is electric… just kidding, I totally agree, I’ve seen too many posts like this, and it’s always people in the comments scaring the owners

The only ones scaring the OP are the ones who don’t know anything about cars

I was going to make a joke about my car being silent, but you beat me to it! :grin:

I see this a lot, and everyone just spreads misinformation. I’ve had several Kias, and they all make the same noise. It’s just how these cars sound

This is a Kia thread. It’s been posted so many times. I see the same question every day. People keep spreading misinformation, making owners nervous. I know for a fact that Kia models, especially the Optimas from 2010-2017, make these noises naturally. The THETA-II engines specifically make these sounds. I’m pretty sure any GDI engine, the injectors, make similar noises. Nothing to worry about

I’m not offended, relax. Writing in all caps draws attention. I said the same thing you did down the thread .

@quinnlebron
I figured it did. But either way, these concerns come up all the time. I wish I could answer all these questions in one go to make people feel better. They end up wasting money at dealerships for $150+ just to find out that everything is fine

@Jean
Maybe you’re right. I had a similar noise, and it turned out to be the GDI fuel pump under the engine plastic cover. My engine died years later, maybe it was related, maybe not. I’m not stressing over whether it dies or not

@Della
I have a 2018 Tucson, which has the same 2.4 engine, but it’s 6 years older than the Sorento, and it doesn’t make these noises

The injectors are just loud. Don’t bring your car in for that. It’s normal

Such a waste of money

The two Chevy’s I had before my Kia did the same thing when it was cold

I installed a 5-point grounding harness, and it quieted the engine noise, plus my startups are smoother and quieter

Do you have a link for this part? I’m interested in trying it

@Jean
Here’s the one I bought. I got the voltage regulator and grounding kit together, but they can be bought separately. https://sharkracing.com/raizin-volt-stabilizer/
