Is Kia Korean Or Japanese?

I’m trying to settle a debate with a friend: Is Kia a Korean or Japanese car brand? I’ve heard conflicting things and just want to make sure I have my facts straight. Thanks!

Kia is a Korean car brand. It was founded in South Korea in 1944.

Formerly known as Kyungsung Precision Industry and Kia Motors Corporation, Kia Corporation is a South Korean multinational automobile manufacturer headquartered in Seoul, South Korea.

Kia is a South Korean brand and not Japanese

In South Korea, there are technically four domestic car companies: Hyundai/Kia, GM Korea, Ssangyong, and Renault-Samsung.

However, Hyundai/Kia dominates the market due to their focus on consumer demands for comfort and affordability, offering more features at reasonable prices. In contrast, GM and Renault vehicles tend to be more expensive to purchase and maintain, and they depreciate rapidly.
