Is $50k OTD for an SX xLine reasonable or am I asking too much?

The dealership near me is selling the SX xLine for $57k out the door, with a lifetime powertrain warranty included.

I’m aiming to get them down to $50k OTD. Does that sound fair?

We just test drove it yesterday, and honestly, I can’t see myself paying more than $50k for it. There’s a lot of plastic, and I was surprised by how positive the reviews are about the interior. It mostly feels cheap to me, but overall it’s a decent car, and the lifetime warranty is pretty tempting.

Be careful with those ‘lifetime’ powertrain warranties… They usually have so many conditions that they’re not worth much. For example, you might have to get all oil changes at that specific dealership or do annual maintenance there. Plus, if you move away from that area, the warranty might not even be valid. You might be better off getting a solid 10-year warranty from a reliable provider instead.

Also, the out-the-door price doesn’t mean much without knowing the state you’re in since taxes vary a lot. If you can find out the car’s MSRP without any dealer add-ons and the final dealership price before taxes, that would help a lot.

By the way, someone shared that right now, a typical discount might be around $3,000 to $4,500 off the MSRP, not the $5,000 that was common earlier. Don’t forget about the extra fees that dealers often throw in too. Let us know what you find out.

Man, $5k off would have been awesome. I thought I did pretty well getting $2,500 off plus a $1,000 finance rebate a couple of weeks ago on an SX AWD.

That’s actually a good deal. The current Kia finance rebate for the 2025 model is $1,000, not $1,500, which was for leftover 2024 models. You usually get a higher interest rate with the rebate, so it only makes sense if you’re planning to pay it off quickly. Also, don’t put too much trust in that lifetime powertrain warranty. You might have to follow stricter maintenance than what’s listed in the owner’s manual, and missing even one thing can void the warranty. Plus, maintenance under the warranty can get pretty expensive.

Comparing OTD prices only makes sense if you’re in the same state since taxes and fees can vary a lot. Someone in LA with a 9.5% sales tax is going to pay way more than someone in NC with 3%. Getting $5k off on a top-trim Telluride is possible, but usually only at the end of a month or quarter when dealers are trying to meet their sales targets. Hope you can make it work.

Over here in the Midwest, they’re going for around $49k.

Is that the out-the-door price? I’m in Wisconsin, and they tried adding about $7k in taxes and other fees. I wasn’t about to pay that, but I just wanted to see what others are paying.

That lifetime powertrain warranty is pretty much a scam. I’m dealing with it now on a 2020 model we bought back in 2019. Car was fine until about 50k miles, but now I’m stuck fighting with them even though we kept up with maintenance. Makes me wish I just leased it.

@Lily
What happened? Did they try to get out of it over some small detail like a missed oil change?

Just tell them to keep the lifetime warranty and give it to you for $50k out the door.

I don’t know what you were expecting from the interior at that price. It’s about as good as you’ll find in that range. Also, your OTD price goal is basically asking for MSRP without any extra fees, which is pretty unlikely.

I picked up the 2025 for $50k just last weekend.

Good to know it’s possible. How much was the sales tax on that?

$2,186. Pretty standard for my area.
