Insurance problems after too many claims

I just tried to get insured and got denied because of too many claims (5 total, 4 were theft/vandalism for my 2021 Kia). I’m not even trying to insure the Kia anymore since I don’t have it, but it’s still being used against me. What am I supposed to do? That car literally ruined my life, and getting rid of it didn’t solve my problems.

Try going to a local insurance shop. They might be able to help.

I think that’s what I’ll end up doing. I just hope I still get a good deal.

So, four crimes of theft and vandalism didn’t ruin your life, but the car did? Really?

The car definitely played a big role in it. I spent a ton of money trying to protect it with dashcams, trackers, and stickers. Then, my Christmas gifts were stolen (car got taken an hour after I got home). I lost work shifts, spent money on Ubers, and gave gas money to coworkers. I had to pay $1,000 deductibles each time, $280 for broken windows, and over $600 in personal items that were stolen. I blame the car because it should have been built better or fixed sooner. I also blame the kids who stole it, the salesman who didn’t warn me, and myself for not doing more research. Jesus might not have wept, but I did.

Don’t forget to blame TikTok for spreading the info.

Have you tried GEICO?

GEICO, Progressive, and State Farm all quoted me over $600 a month. I’m still waiting to hear back from AAA and Liberty Mutual.

That’s crazy!

Do you have a bad driving record?

Nope, all the claims were because of the Kia.

Wow! You might have a case for the lemon law.

I’ll look into it and see if there’s anything I can do.

I feel you. They wanted over $500 a month to insure my car. Glad I got rid of it.

Off-topic, but insurance companies like to see continuous insurance history. Switching cars is fine, but if there’s a gap, they might dig into your record.

If you’ve had claims, it’s better to stick with the same company for a few years. Only switch if you’re still insured—no gaps.

That’s what happened with AAA. I missed a payment because my car got broken into, and I had to lock my card. By the time I noticed, I was two days late, and they canceled my insurance. Now they want me to pay over $3,000 to get it back, and I can’t afford that.

That makes sense. Missing a payment is a breach of contract, which gives them a reason to renegotiate or treat you like a new customer. Hopefully, this helps others avoid similar issues, but the Kia break-ins definitely didn’t help your case.

Yeah, I learned the hard way. I was getting such a good deal, too. That’s what hurts the most.

After the second theft or vandalism, I would’ve moved, garaged it, or sold it.

I tried. I really did, but at the time, I couldn’t get another car or sell it. So, I just had to deal with it.

Not everyone has the money or property to do that. If my car was getting stolen, I’d just have to hope it didn’t happen again. I use a club on my steering wheel, even though they can’t steal my car because of the immobilizer. It’s just to keep them from breaking the windows or damaging the steering column.
