I’m trying to figure out how long car repairs might take. I know it’s just an estimate because I don’t know the damage to the frame or internal parts. Does anyone have an idea of the repair time? Has Kia been helpful with body shop work? I have a 30-day rental covered by my insurance but I’ve been let down by rental durations before.
My repair took 4 months due to parts being hard to get.

The guy who hit me was driving without his headlights on. I have dash cam footage. Is there a way I can get his insurance to cover more rental days?
@Jeremybeans
I told the insurance company I needed a rental for work and family, and they gave me a Jeep Cherokee. I paid the deductible, but they refunded it after the repair. My insurance (USAA) handled the rental and then billed his insurance when the repair bills came in. Hopefully, he’s not under-insured, that might cause delays.
@CharlotteAmelia
He was driving a newer car, so I think he’s insured. Thanks for the info.
@Jeremybeans
You should talk to your insurance agent.

I did, I just wanted to know if anyone here had experience with this.

Your insurance agent should help you, especially about rental coverage. If it’s the other person’s fault, their insurance will cover your rental.
@Cynthia
I’m getting $30 a day from mine. I’ve sent over the dash cam footage showing they were at fault, so I guess I just need to wait.

Your insurance should’ve given you a rental immediately, since they’ll recover the costs from the other insurance.
@Cynthia
They gave me a pretty bad rental. It’s not easy with the weather here in Michigan.

Haha, I know what you mean, I live in Erie PA.

Lol, it’s no fun.
@Jeremybeans
You should just call your insurance agent. They’ll have more info than anyone on this forum right now.
I’ve got a small dent and scratch on both my driver-side doors right now. The insurance company is dragging their feet with estimates and repairs, so what was supposed to be a one-week job is now looking like two. This was a hit-and-run, and I don’t have rental coverage, so I’m paying out-of-pocket for a rental. I’ll have to go back in a few months to fix the last parts once they arrive.
@KintaKinta
That sounds rough, sorry to hear that. Reminds me of my last experience years ago. It’s crazy how shady some people can be.
Work with your insurance to sort out what you need. They’ll go after the other guy’s insurance to cover the costs, so you won’t need to deal with that directly.

Thanks, that’s exactly what I was hoping to hear.
I got rear-ended in July and didn’t get my car back until October. The delay was mostly because of parts availability, but honestly, the body shop was a mess. They tried to charge me twice for some parts and for work they didn’t even do. My Kia’s a great car, but the customer service from both Kia corporate and my local dealer has been terrible.
@Meryann
Sorry to hear that. I’m hoping my car gets totaled, the adjuster said it’s a possibility because of all the airbags that went off.
