When you’re part of this club, you eventually learn to keep oil in your trunk to top off as needed. If you’re burning that much oil, you also need to stay on top of your catalytic converter, or it will clog up one day, causing limp mode and a $5k+ repair bill.
It’s such a common issue with these Kias that most mechanics should know about it. If they don’t, they’re not pros.
You can/should add oil as needed, but I’d caution against getting an oil change at 1,500 miles because I’ve read that some people who did that found that when their engine blew up, it wasn’t covered under the class action suit because they didn’t follow the recommended maintenance schedule.
I just learned this myself. I took my '16 in today for an oil change and was below a quart, even though it had been 3,000 miles since the last change. The tech said it’s normal for these engines, but it’s still not great. You might want to switch to semi-synthetic oil—it won’t burn as quickly, but it still burns faster than it should. Bring it in every 1,500 miles to top off, rather than waiting until the full service.
When I owned my 2016 Kia Soul Exclaim, I had to add oil every 1,500 miles or so. But as long as I did that, the engine ran fine. So it was a small price to pay.
