Had the same talk with my insurance after something similar happened.
Rep: “Oh, so you hit a deer?”
Me: “No, the deer hit me.”
Rep: “What do you mean?”
Me - sends over photos, all side damage.
Rep: “Oh… yeah, I get it now!”

That sucks. Looks like mostly cosmetic damage, hopefully nothing serious.

Ummm… no, not at all. I never even saw it, just caught it in my rearview flying through the air. The police showed up a few minutes later, and I asked about it since I hate seeing animals hurt. They said it didn’t make it.

My brother and I were driving about 40 years ago when a huge buck rammed right into my side of the car… headfirst. We were only going about 35-40 mph. I’ve hit deer before, but that was the only time one actually hit me.
It was rut season, so maybe it thought the Toyota Celica was competition for its does. Either way, it walked off looking a little unsteady but seemed to survive.

My elbow hurt yesterday (I guess the door buckled in on it?), but it’s fine today. Could’ve been way worse, so I’m thankful.
