Battery warning with engine running

When driving this morning a warning suddenly appeared on the screen: “Battery discharge warning. Please use the system with engine running.” However, the engine definitely was running; we were traveling at 110 km/hour at the time.

I have seen this warning before, after shutting down but with the radio still on. The vehicle is a 2016 Sorento SX AWD with about 115,000 km on the odo. The belt looks good and battery connections are tight.

It’s best to have this checked out by a mechanic to diagnose the cause of the warning. They can perform tests on the alternator, electrical system, and battery to pinpoint the issue.

The alert implies that there might be a problem with the battery or charging mechanism. It’s possible that the system isn’t fully charging the battery even while the engine is operating. A bad alternator, battery, or electrical connection are examples of potential causes. It is best to have a mechanic do a diagnostic check in order to identify and solve the root cause as soon as possible.

Problem with the alternator which is usually responsible for recharging and discharging the battery. A faulty alternator will discharge the battery but find trouble in recharging the battery

Nothing to worry about, it’s just letting you know that while the engine is off and you’re using the radio/accessories, it will drain your battery. After a long while of doing this your battery will be dead and won’t be able to start the car.
