Anyone having trouble with Apple CarPlay on the 2025 Kia Sportage EX?

Hey, we just bought my wife’s new car yesterday, and everything is great except one thing—she can’t get Apple CarPlay to work. The phone connects via Bluetooth, and contacts show up fine, but CarPlay stays greyed out. We’ve followed the manual, watched YouTube guides, and tried troubleshooting, but no luck. My Toyota connects so easily, but this seems like a hassle.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Apple CarPlay isn’t wireless in the EX, at least not in Canada.

I’m planning to get this myself:

I have that one, and it works great. No regrets at all.

This might be obvious, but just checking—are you trying to connect with a cable or wirelessly? The Sportage doesn’t support wireless CarPlay.

Yeah, I heard that too, which is really frustrating. We tried using a USB cable, but nothing happened.

That’s odd! We just got our EX, and I set up Android Auto with no problem. I’ll try connecting my wife’s iPhone later and let you know how it goes.

That would be great. My wife is really annoyed about it, and I get why.

@InfiniteImpulse
Just tested it! Both Android Auto and CarPlay worked right away when I plugged into the USB-A port. No setup needed, just plug and go.

Some things I’ve seen people mention:

  1. Use a good-quality cable—some only charge but don’t transfer data.
  2. Only the USB-A port works for CarPlay, not USB-C.

If you already tried these and it still doesn’t work, I’d be stumped too.

@Magdalina
I had a similar issue when we first got our car. Switched to a better cable, and suddenly it worked fine.

The EX Hybrid can use CarPlay, but the non-hybrid EX can’t. My son has the hybrid, and his works fine, but mine doesn’t.

I think the EX does have wireless CarPlay, but the EX-Premium doesn’t.

@InfiniteImpulse
Only the base model has wireless CarPlay. It’s ridiculous.

Just get a CarPlay adapter, and you’re good.

I have the EX-Premium, and yeah, no wireless CarPlay. It’s something to do with their navigation provider.

I got this wireless adapter, and it works perfectly. Connects instantly, and I’ve had zero issues.

*Note: This only works for iPhones.

That’s weird. My 2025 Kia Sportage LX has wireless CarPlay.

Yeah, from what I’ve read, the lower trims get wireless CarPlay, but the higher trims don’t because of the navigation setup. Makes no sense at all.

Are you using a USB-A or USB-C port? CarPlay only works with USB-A in the US.

USB-A.

USB-A.

Try swapping the cable and maybe even the phone. Could be a glitch with the port.

@fabricia
Good idea, I’ll give that a shot. Thanks!

I bought this adapter, and it works great.
