Anyone else just love Soul owners?

They’re just so cool, and their cars always have the best little decorations. I swear, every time I see a Soul on the road, it makes me smile. Lucky for me, my neighbor has one, so I get to see it every day! I’m really thinking about getting one myself, but I’ve heard they can leak oil a lot and even catch fire sometimes… kinda makes me nervous.

The third-gen Souls don’t have those problems… :red_car::tomato:

I’ve had my eye on a 2018 Kia Soul for a while now.

That’s a second-gen model. Some of those with GDI engines have issues… :pensive: Just a heads-up.

@SorentoSquad
2018 is the best year for the Soul, hands down.

They do look nice—no argument there! But those GDI engines can be a pain… :red_car::tomato:

What kind of issues are we talking about?

@Zachary
Mainly oil consumption, clogged catalytic converters, and in some cases, engine fires. Not all of them, but enough to be cautious.

Honestly, the 2018 Soul has the best GDI engine Kia put out. You just have to clean out carbon buildup in the intake valves every 75-100k miles. Costs about $10 and takes 15 minutes. Mine has been super reliable.

Oh, and heated seats for $40? Yes, please! You just swap out the dash HVAC panel for one with seat heater buttons—it’s plug-and-play.

@SorentoSquad
If you go for a third-gen with the 2.0 multiport (non-GDI) engine, they’re solid. I have a 2023 EX and love it. :red_car::tomato:

I really want a Soul, but now I’m second-guessing everything :sob:. I just love the way they look!

I’ve got a 2018 Soul Plus, and it’s been great. If you can, go for the ! trim—it has more features. Mine is at 140k miles, and the only big thing I’ve replaced is the starter, which is totally normal at this mileage. Still running on the original battery and alternator. Best year for the Soul, in my opinion.

@Zachary
Awww, thank you for this! That makes me feel so much better about getting one! :heart:

Always do your research first! I haven’t had issues, but it never hurts to double-check before buying.

@Zachary
For sure! Thanks for all the advice!

Lol, yeah, fair point. You never know with these things!

Soul drivers are always the most stylish Walmart shoppers :joy:
