Anyone else having trouble with the unlock when grabbing the handle?

I just got a 2025 SX Prestige X-Line Telly and I’m having issues with the door unlocking when I grab the handle. Sometimes it works right away - the lights flash, mirrors open, and doors unlock as soon as I touch it. But other times, I end up pulling the handle several times or waiting for 5 to 10 seconds before it reacts. Is this just how it is, or is mine acting up? My old Ford Edge used to unlock right away as long as I had the key with me, so this is pretty annoying.

I’m having the same problem with my 2024 X-Line. It’s really frustrating.

Same here. Super annoying.

Yep, same issue with my 2024 SXP-XLine. Makes no sense.

Mine does the same thing and the dealer couldn’t figure out why.

Had mine for 3 weeks now (2025 model), and I’ve noticed this too. I think I might be touching the lock button by accident while grabbing the handle, so I’ve been trying to be more careful.

I did the same thing at first with my 2025. I was grabbing the handle while my thumb was on the lock button, and it confused the system. Once I made sure to keep them separate, it worked fine.

I used to have a 2013 VW and it always worked perfectly. Now I have a 2024 SXP X-Pro Telly, and it’s hit or miss. Sometimes it unlocks right away, other times I have to try a few times. Honestly, it’s still better than using the phone app, which takes forever.

@DolphGabbana
Honestly, I could pick the lock faster than using the phone app.

Same here. It’s really inconsistent.

My 2023 SXP usually works fine, but I’ve noticed sometimes it doesn’t read my fingers properly on the inside of the grip. It just picks up my thumb and locks again. Doesn’t happen often, though.

I’ve got a 2024 SX-X Line and I never actually touch the handle to unlock it. I just reach towards it and pause for a second, then it unlocks and I open it in one go. Sometimes I’m too slow and it locks again, but it mostly works fine for me.

I’ve got a 2023 X-Line and had this issue at first. I figured out that there are two sensors - one inside the handle for unlocking and one on the outside for locking. If your hand touches both, they kind of cancel each other out. The trick is to put your fingers behind the handle and keep your thumb away until it unlocks.

Are you keeping the fob in your pocket? Sometimes my Kia doesn’t pick up the signal if my phone is between the fob and the handle.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I figured the phone might be messing with the signal too.

You really have to grip it firmly. My old 2014 MDX worked a lot easier - just a light touch was enough.

Where do you keep your key? Mine’s always in my front pocket and it works every time. My wife keeps hers in her purse, and sometimes it doesn’t unlock unless the purse is right up against the door.

I noticed that grabbing it close to the right edge seems to help.

I’ve noticed that it makes a difference which pocket I have the key in - left pocket is faster, right pocket takes longer.

Got the 2024 SX-P X-Pro, and the driver’s door was being super picky about the fob. Sometimes it would work fine, other times it wouldn’t pick up until I pulled the fob out to press the unlock button. Dealer checked it out, replaced the door handle under warranty, and it’s been working great since. I think some of the older Tellurides needed a firmware update.
