Anyone else having trouble charging devices in their Kia Soul?

So I found out the USB port in my Soul doesn’t charge anything… it’s just for data. I do have two 12V cigarette lighter ports though. Has anyone tried using a 12V charger that has an actual plug outlet for power cords? I heard some people blew their fuses using certain ones, and I’d really like to avoid that. Any advice would help!

What year is your Soul? I’ve got a 2015, and it shows the power limit for each outlet. If the USB isn’t working, did you by any chance replace the stereo with an aftermarket one?

I use a USB adapter from Walmart, the Onn brand. It works great for charging my phone and other stuff. Mine is a 2019 Soul Plus.

I have the 2023 EX, and it came with a wireless charger. I just leave my phone on that little shelf and it charges while I drive. :red_car::hamburger:

How do I know if my Soul has the wireless charger? I’ve got a 2023 LX.

@Princeton
It’s a small shelf right above the USB and cigarette lighter ports. If you put your phone on it and see a little orange light, it means it’s charging. It seems to only work when the car is in drive though. Oh, and your phone needs to support wireless charging too! :red_car::hamburger:

My Soul’s USB port charges, and it also has wireless charging built in. But I stopped using the wireless charger because my phone overheats and the charging pauses.

Get yourself an inverter that plugs into the 12V port. It works just like a regular outlet at home. Just keep in mind, the car needs to be running or you’ll drain the battery.

I’ve got a 2013 Soul and my USB port won’t charge either. When I plug my phone in, it says the phone isn’t compatible. Maybe it missed some kind of update? No idea, lol.

I think it only works with iPhones. I just use Bluetooth since I’ve got an Android.

Funny thing is, I do have an iPhone! Still no luck, lol.

My 2022 works fine with Android, no issues at all.

Yeah, I don’t think the older models like the 2013 supported Android properly.

The USB port in older Souls isn’t meant for charging, it’s just for playing MP3s from a flash drive. Your best bet is getting a USB charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter. Amazon has plenty of cheap options.

I’ve had better luck using a portable battery pack instead of charging through the car. I keep one in the car for long drives…works great. I’ve got a 2012 Soul, by the way.

I’ve got a 2013, and I run my red and white emergency lights for firefighting and charge my phone off the same 12V port without any issues.

I installed a 1000W pure sine wave inverter directly onto the stock battery of my 2021 Soul. It’s been running great for two years now without any problems.
