Hey everyone, I’ve got a 2014 Kia Sorento with about 84k miles on it. Just filled it up with oil, but after only 680 miles, it’s already at the low mark on the dipstick. The dealer told me to keep driving until it dies and then bring it in… Anyone else had to deal with this?
Yup, same here with my 2015 model. The dealership told me the Theta II engine is notorious for these issues. I’d definitely push them to do an oil consumption test if they haven’t already!

Thanks, I didn’t realize this was such a common problem. Do you know if the test is covered under warranty?
@AnthonyWilson
Yeah, it should be covered under the 10-year/100k-mile powertrain warranty. Just be prepared to bring it back after 1k miles for them to check.
Same issue here! I ended up switching out my PCV valve, and that helped slow down the oil loss a bit. Might be worth a try since it’s an easy fix.

Oh, I’ll look into that. Thanks for the tip. Do you think it’s something I could replace myself?
@AnthonyWilson
Just search up a quick video, and you should be able to knock it out in under 10 minutes. It’s only like $10 too.
Just curious, how much oil are you going through per 1k miles? My dealer keeps telling me it’s ‘normal’ unless it’s a full quart per thousand miles.

I think it’s close to a quart every 700 miles… seems way more than normal!
@AnthonyWilson
Yeah, that sounds high. I’d press them on that. If they push back, maybe see another dealership.
The dealership I went to tried to charge me over $2k to replace all my oil seals. I ended up just adding a stop-leak product, and it actually slowed things down quite a bit.

Good to know! Do you remember which product you used?
@AnthonyWilson
Yeah, it was BlueDevil Oil Stop Leak. It won’t fix everything, but it bought me some time until I could afford a bigger repair.
My dealer keeps saying ‘just keep adding oil,’ as if that’s a long-term solution. It’s frustrating when they don’t take you seriously.

Exactly. It’s like they don’t even care. Thanks for sharing… makes me feel a little less alone in this.
