A parked Jeep rolled into my 2024 Forte and caused some serious damage. I’m trying to figure out how it happened and what to do next. Anyone have advice or similar experiences?
Make sure to ask for the diminished value from their insurance company if that’s an option in your state. If they try to lowball you, look up Collision Safety Consultants on Facebook for some help. I’m not affiliated with them but they really know their stuff.
@Miller
Collision consultants are great, nice to see them mentioned here on this forum.
@Miller
Good looking out, I’ll definitely check them out!

I get the point, but it’s a Kia Forte. It’s a low-value car, so paying for legal services might not be worth it. It’s just some fender damage.

You never know how much someone has invested in their car. For some, it’s a lot more than just a cheap car.
@julielarson
My point is, paying a lawyer to argue reduced value for a low-end car could cost you more than the car is worth. Whether you worked hard to buy it or got it as a gift, it’s still not worth a huge fight.

Some people treat their Kia like it’s a BMW. It’s funny how passionate some get about these cars.
@Cillian
BMW isn’t the benchmark for luxury cars anymore, but still funny to hear.
Yeah, if the car was in Park it likely wouldn’t have rolled. Had a similar experience before where the car rolled when it was left in Neutral, and the owner tried to blame the car for their mistake.

Could’ve been a manual Jeep, though.
@Jean
With manual cars, you’re supposed to leave it in 1st gear (or Reverse when parked downhill) and apply the handbrake. Neutral is a bad habit for manuals.

Most people today don’t know this stuff. Some can’t even figure out how to turn on their headlights.

I’ve had two manual cars with broken parking brakes. I just leave them in gear, works fine.
This is why I park far away from others. But then when I come back, someone always parks right next to me.

That’s my luck too. People park right behind me, making it impossible to load anything in the back without using their hood as a seat. Trust me, that’s never happened…

Same here, I always park far away, but somehow people park right next to me. So frustrating.

I once parked my manual Integra in a big lot, went into a store, and when I came back, it had rolled out into the middle of the lot. Thankfully, not many cars were around.

I’ve had similar problems. My mom uses a wheelchair, and I have to park far for space, but someone always parks too close. I joke they do it on purpose.
Sorry, but Jeep drivers are pretty careless in my experience. This was likely user error.
