hey everyone, i’ve got a 2018 kia forte that just won’t start, and it’s throwing a p0017 code. the mechanic said it’s related to the variable timing solenoid and could mean the cam and crank sensors are reading out of time. anyone else had something similar?
sounds like it might be a timing issue. did they suggest a compression test? sometimes that helps confirm if the timing chain is out.

yeah, they mentioned starting with a compression test. i’ll probably do that first.
i had this code pop up once on my forte. ended up being a wiring issue with the cam sensor. worth checking if the compression test doesn’t show anything.
if it’s a p0017, it usually means there’s a timing mismatch. the ecvvt system can also mess with the timing, but you’d typically see another code for that.
just curious, was there any work done on it before this started? sometimes these issues pop up after engine work.

nope, nothing done recently. it just started out of the blue.
