2017 Kia Sorento gear shift stuck in park and lighting issues—help?

I have a 2017 Kia Sorento, and suddenly the gear shift lever got stuck in park. The battery is fine, but it won’t move out of park. Additionally, I’ve been experiencing issues with the lights—they turn off randomly when I steer or use the turn signals. I usually keep them in automatic mode.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  • Checked the brake lights, and they work fine.
  • Verified there’s no clicking sound near the gear shifter when pressing the brake pedal.
  • Found a blown 7.5 amp fuse labeled Module 7, which I’ll replace after work.

Could this be related to the brake pedal switch, the shift interlock solenoid, or something else? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

A blown Module 7 fuse could definitely cause issues with the gear shift interlock. Replace it and see if that resolves the problem first.

I had a similar issue, and replacing the fuse fixed it. Double-check the fuse diagram to confirm its function.

The brake pedal switch could also be the culprit. Even if the brake lights work, the switch has multiple circuits, and one might be faulty.

For the lighting issues, it could be the clock spring in the steering wheel. It’s a common cause of electrical problems when turning.

Make sure the shift interlock solenoid is getting power. If the fuse replacement doesn’t fix it, use a multimeter to test for voltage at the solenoid.

The lights turning off while steering might indicate a loose connection or a faulty light switch. Check those after resolving the fuse issue.
