Hey all, I recently replaced the thermostat on my 2016 Kia Sorento, but it’s still overheating. There are no warning lights or codes on the reader, and I haven’t seen any obvious leaks, though I can smell a bit of coolant. Do I need to bleed the system? Any tips?
Yes, you’ll definitely want to bleed the system. Air trapped in the coolant lines can prevent proper circulation, causing the engine to overheat.

Thanks, that makes sense. I’ll give it a shot.
There’s a specific funnel that helps with bleeding the system. It lets you keep the coolant topped up as you let the air out. Most parts stores have them.

I’ll look into that, sounds like it’ll make the job easier.
If bleeding the system doesn’t help, it could be a clog or something with the water pump, but start with bleeding first.

Good call, hoping it’s just an air issue and nothing more.
After bleeding, keep an eye on the coolant level over the next few days. Sometimes air pockets take a while to fully work out.
I had to top off the coolant a couple of times after bleeding when I did mine. Hope it works for you.
