Hey all, I had a scary situation last night with my 2016 Kia Sorento. While driving, a voice came over the system telling me to get immediate attention, and the check engine light started flashing. I turned around to head home, but I had to floor the gas pedal just to keep up with traffic. Eventually, the car lost power, so I pulled over and got it towed. This morning, it started, but there was a lot of loud knocking from the engine. I recently spent a lot on repairs, including replacing the turbo. Could my engine be damaged beyond repair?
Flashing check engine light usually means a serious issue. Sounds like it could be low on oil or a major internal problem, especially with the knocking sound.

Yeah, I checked the oil, and it was low. Not sure if the mechanic filled it up completely during the last service.
A bad knock and no power can be signs of serious engine damage. If it was low on oil, there’s a chance the engine might have taken some serious wear.

That’s what I’m afraid of. Would a full engine replacement be needed?
Might be worth getting a compression test or a full diagnostic at a shop to know for sure. Sometimes it’s cheaper to replace the engine than repair one that’s heavily damaged.

Agreed. A used engine might be your best option if it comes to that.
I’d recommend checking with salvage yards or online sites like Car-Part.com. You can sometimes find used engines at a decent price.
If you’re considering a replacement, make sure you check warranty options. Some places offer warranties on used engines, which can be a lifesaver.
