The radiator fan on my 2016 Kia Rio isn’t turning on. I can hear a click near the fan motor when the car is turned off, but the fan doesn’t move. The car overheated once, but I haven’t noticed any issues with the temperature gauge since then. I’m thinking of replacing the fan, but I’m worried it might be something else, like the relay. Anyone know how to test the fan or relay before replacing parts?
You can use a multimeter to check if the fan is getting voltage. If there’s power at the connector but the fan isn’t working, then it’s likely the fan itself.

Thanks, I’ll test the voltage at the connector and see if that’s the issue.
If you hear a click, it could mean the relay is engaging, but it’s worth swapping the relay with a new one to rule it out.

Good idea, I’ll try replacing the relay first before I change the fan.
Check if the fan spins freely by hand. If it’s stuck, the motor might be burned out or jammed, which could prevent it from turning on.

I’ll give the fan a spin and see if it moves freely. Thanks for the suggestion.
Make sure the fan fuse is intact. Sometimes a blown fuse can cause the fan to stop working.

Good point, I’ll check the fuse too while I’m at it.
I had a similar issue, and it turned out to be the fan motor. Replacing it fixed the problem. If the relay and wiring are good, it’s probably the motor.

I’m leaning towards the fan motor too. I’ll test everything and see if it needs replacing.
