2015 Kia K900 hydroplaning on wet roads

I’ve got a 2015 Kia K900 V8 that’s hydroplaning in wet weather, even though my tires are brand new. It only happens on wet roads, like after a light rain, and I lose control of the steering when it happens. I’m wondering if there’s a traction control setting I can adjust? I’ve found the traction control button, but the issue is still there. Anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this?

You might want to check if the tires are directional. If they were installed backward, they won’t channel water properly and could cause hydroplaning.

I didn’t think about that. I’ll have the installer check the tire alignment and orientation.

Even though the tires are new, it’s possible they aren’t suited for wet conditions. What type of tires did you get?

They’re Toyo tires, but I’m not sure of the exact model. I’ll check with the installer.

It might be worth asking if they’re performance tires or all-season. Performance tires aren’t always the best in the rain.

If your TPMS light is on, it’s a good idea to check the tire pressure. Low tire pressure can increase the risk of hydroplaning.

Good point. I’ll check the pressure and make sure it’s at the right level.

Traction control should already be on by default, so no need to adjust that. It’s more likely to be an issue with the tires or alignment.

Thanks for confirming. I’ll focus on the tires and alignment for now.

It might be worth taking it to a shop to check the alignment and make sure the tires are installed properly. They can also check the traction control system while you’re there.

I’ll definitely do that. Thanks for the advice!
