I’m working on a 2015 Kia Forte 2.0 and noticed a loud slapping noise coming from the engine. It runs okay, but I’m concerned it might be a timing chain issue. If the timing has jumped, could it have bent the valves? There are no misfire codes, and the engine isn’t running rough. Should I do a compression test to confirm? Also, what’s the labor estimate for a timing chain replacement, and should I replace the sprockets, tensioners, and guides at the same time?
That slapping noise does sound like a timing chain issue. It’s good that the engine is running okay—that’s a sign the valves might still be fine.

Agreed. A compression test will confirm if there’s any valve damage, but from what you’ve described, it sounds like you caught it early.
Labor for a timing chain replacement is around 4.2 hours, but if you’re replacing tensioners and guides, budget closer to 5 hours.
You won’t know if the sprockets are damaged until you pull the timing cover, but it’s a good idea to replace them along with the chain, tensioners, and guides.
If the chain has been slapping for a while, check the chain guides closely. They tend to wear out quickly in situations like this.
Make sure to use OEM parts for the timing chain and related components. Aftermarket parts sometimes don’t last as long.
